How to choose a bracelet size

Buying a bracelet online, whether for yourself or as a gift, can be a daunting task:

What length bracelet should I choose?

As with rings or necklaces, it’s important to choose the right size. You don’t want your bracelet to be too tight or too wide. Here are a few tips to help you choose the right bracelet length.

How do I measure my wrist to choose a bracelet size?

The easiest way to measure your wrist is with a flexible tape measure, a piece of string or even a piece of bolduc.

With a tape measure

Wrap the tape measure around your wrist where the outer bone is, without tightening it too much.

Always round up to the nearest centimeter: if your wrist measures 18.5 cm, the measurement will be 19 cm.

With string

  1. Take a piece of string and wrap it around your wrist at the outer bone.
  2. Use a felt-tip pen to draw a line where the string joins.
  3. Unwind the string and measure the length between the two lines. Round up to the nearest centimetre.

Caution: take care to measure on the ulnar styloid (the small bone on the outside of the wrist).

Remember: your wrist size is not your bracelet size.

How to determine the ideal bracelet size?

First of all, it’s important to consider how you like to wear a bracelet.

  • To wear a bracelet close to the wrist: add 1 to 1.5 cm to your wrist size.
  • For a looser fit: add 1.5 to 2 cm to your wrist measurement.

Determining size according to bracelet width

For standard-width bracelets

A standard-width bracelet is a piece of jewelry no wider than 2 cm.

For this type of bracelet, you can add 0.5 to 1.5 cm to your wrist circumference.

For wide bracelets

Your arm gradually widens from the wrist.

That’s why, if you choose a wide bracelet (over three centimetres wide), or a “Manchette” bracelet (over 4 cm wide), you’ll need to add 1.5 to 2 cm to your wrist circumference.

Determining the size according to the clasp

For Toggle bracelets

Toggles with toggle clasps are super-fashionable, but they need to be chosen “wide enough” for the clasp to work and for them to close properly.

Don’t hesitate to add 1.5 to 2 cm to your wrist size.

For Jonc or Manchette bracelets

To determine the size of a rigid bracelet, whether it’s a jonc bracelet or a cuff bracelet, it’s necessary to measure the size of your palm. To ensure that your hand will fit within the diameter of the bracelet. Jonc, Manchette and Bangles bracelets are generally worn rather wide.

  1. Measure your palm with a flat ruler at its widest point.
  2. Refer to the conversion chart below to determine the minimum size of your rigid bracelet. You can select one or two sizes larger, depending on whether you prefer to wear your bracelet “tight” or “wide”.

Palm size – Your measurement (cm) ) Minimum diameter of rigid bracelet (cm)

6.0 to 6.5 cm 5.0 to 5.2 cm

6.5 to 6.9 cm 5.2 to 5.4 cm

6.9 to 7.3 cm 5.4 to 5.6 cm

7.3 to 7.7 cm 5.6 to 5.8 cm

7.7 to 8.1 cm 5.8 to 6.0 cm

8.1 to 8.3 cm 6.0 to 6.2 cm

8.4 to 8.6 cm 6.2 to 6.4 cm

8.6 to 8.8cm 6.4 to 6.6 cm

8.8 to 9.0 cm 6.8 to 7.0 cm

All these adjustments are not cumulative

That’s why we’ve put together a Bracelet Size Guide to help you find your way around.

Which standard bracelet size should I choose?

You’d like to offer a bracelet, but you don’t know the size of the person’s wrist.

You can refer to the standard bracelet sizes below.

However, you should be aware that there are many jewelry models available with an adjustable ring or chain fastening system. This makes it easier to adapt the size of the bracelet to the stature of the person you wish to give a gift to.

What size bracelet for a woman?

The size of a woman’s wrist varies according to her morphology. However, we can classify these profiles into 3 types:

  1. Very thin: a bracelet length of 16 cm or more is recommended.
  2. Thin to medium: a length of 18 cm is preferred.
  3. Large: A length of 20 cm is preferred.

However, note that the standard size for a woman’s bracelet is around 19 cm. For a fuller fit, we recommend a 20 cm bracelet.

What size bracelet for men?

Bracelets for men come in a standard size of around 20 to 21 cm in length. However, you’ll need to adjust your choice of length according to the build of the man to whom you’d like to give the bracelet:

  1. Slim build: a bracelet length of 18 cm should be sufficient.
  2. Medium build: A length of 20 cm should be chosen.
  3. Heavy build: A length of 21 cm is preferable.

  • 2 to 5 years: 14 to 17 cm
  • 5 to 7 years: 15 to 18 cm
  • 7 to 12 years: 16 to 19 cm
  • 12 to 15 years: 16 to 20 cm
